You’ve made up your mind! You’re going to travel the roads of Quebec with your family in your new travel trailer for your vacation this summer! The freedom you’ve been craving! But just make sure you have the right insurance coverage.

“Why bother getting travel trailer insurance?”

If you have car insurance, this might be what you ask yourself. However, you shouldn’t confuse travel trailer insurance with car insurance. The latter will not cover all the property inside your travel trailer in case of theft, vandalism or fire.

What does travel trailer insurance cover?

Travel trailer insurance provides coverage in the event of the collision or upset of your vehicle. Certain insurers specializing in travel trailer insurance may also offer roadside assistance, in addition to covering the belongings you have with you (clothing, electronic tools, food, etc.).

If a mechanical failure or theft were to prevent you from continuing your journey, trip interruption coverage will reimburse you for the expenses you have already incurred. You might also be reimbursed for lodging and meals, which would allow you to continue your vacation.

What about civil liability?

As with your car insurance, civil liability insurance for recreational vehicles is required in Quebec. You must carry a minimum of $50,000 in civil liability insurance. Also, if you plan to travel outside Quebec, whether in Canada or the United States, we strongly recommend that you increase your coverage to $2 million.

This coverage protects you in the event of bodily injury or material damages caused to a third party, in Canada or the United States, if you are found liable for the accident.

Replacement value?

In the event of damage to equipment or accessories, “indemnity without depreciation” coverage allows you to replace them with new parts. This coverage does not take their aging (i.e., depreciation) into account. This rule also applies to your entire travel trailer.

Therefore, if, following an incident, your travel trailer should be declared a total loss, you would be able to replace it with a new one.

Year-round protection!

Travel trailer insurance protects you during your travels, of course, but it also protects your vehicle during the low season while it is being winterized in your driveway. What if an accumulation of snow causes the roof to collapse or a fire burns your travel trailer to the ground? This specific coverage covers your hotel on wheels in winter as well as summer!

Of course, your car or home insurance may well cover part of the damage. However, travel trailer insurance guarantees you complete peace of mind and the ability to enjoy your vehicle whenever you want.

Whether you enjoy going on long journeys with your travel trailer or prefer relaxing at the campground, travel trailer insurance is an excellent tool that lets you enjoy every moment. Contact our brokers to find out what coverage best suits your needs.
